Yamuna Bala is a passionate and results-driven Associate Director at Tembusu Law LLC, specialising in criminal and family litigation. With a strong commitment to safeguarding her clients’ interests, Yamuna combines aggressive advocacy with a practical approach to achieve optimal outcomes. Yamuna graduated with an LLB (Hons) from the University of Manchester in 2018. Throughout her studies, she was actively involved in the Manchester University Law Society and the Singapore Students Society, fostering a global perspective on legal matters. Yamuna was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 2020. Before her tenure at ARLC Legal, Yamuna had worked as a legal trainee with several reputable firms, including Farallon Law Corporation, Prestige Legal LLP and Leo Fernando Advocates & Solicitors. This diverse training allowed her to work across a variety of practice areas, including Bankruptcy, Building and Construction Law, Civil litigation, Criminal litigation and Family Law. Over the years, she has built a reputation for her empathy, resilience, and unwavering dedication to her clients.

Criminal Defence

A notable highlight of her career includes representing an accused individual as Lead Counsel in a trial, where she successfully persuaded the court on the balance of probabilities that her client’s evidence was reliable. Her defence demonstrated that the accused was not negligent, leading to an acquittal on the charge of causing the death of an individual. Yamuna has also assisted numerous clients through investigations and interviews conducted by the Singapore Police Force and the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB). She is known for her meticulous drafting of detailed reports and her ability to achieve favourable resolutions at the conclusion of investigations. She has also advocated for clients in Harassment and Magistrate Complaint proceedings, tirelessly defending their rights and pursuing justice. Yamuna has a proven track record of successfully representing clients in high-value maintenance cases, securing the essential support needed for both spouses and children. She also defends clients in intricate committal proceedings, ensuring their arguments are fully heard and all evidence is meticulously presented, helping the court make fair and just decisions.

Beyond the courtroom, Yamuna is a creative thinker with a knack for finding practical solutions. She served as a legal consultant for a court drama series by Blue River Pictures, where she combined her legal knowledge and imagination to bring stories to life. Fluent in both English and Tamil, she bridges communication gaps and connects with clients from all walks of life. Outside of her professional achievements, Yamuna is approachable, empathetic, and deeply passionate about helping others. Yamuna has made significant contributions to the community. She has volunteered in legal clinics organized by the Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations and the Muslim Law Legal Clinic, offering her expertise to those who need it most. Her dedication to making justice accessible earned her the Legal Aid Bureau’s prestigious NOVO Award. She believes in balancing tenacity with kindness and brings this philosophy into every case she handles.
